2020 International Mountain Running U18 Cup

Bringing the International Youth Cup to Ambleside in 2020.

The International Youth Cup has been a stepping stone for under 18 fell and mountain runners to race internationally since 2006.  Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, Robbie Simpson, Marc Scott and many others have started their international racing careers at this event. Last year in Lanzada, Italy, England’s boys’ team won the event with Rossendale’s Matty Mackay winning the individual title and Ilkley’s Euan Brennan second.

It has never yet been hosted in England.

We would like to bid to bring the event to Ambleside on 20th June 2020.

Quote from Alistair BrownleeAlistair Brownlee

"The Youth Cup holds many special memories for me, it's a fantastic event that motivated me to carry on and continue in sport, lets hope it has the same effect on some budding British athletes in years to come. It would be really special to bring it to Ambleside."

Quote from Robbie SimpsonRobbie Simpson

"For me it was such an amazing experience as a 15 yr old running for my country. It was the stepping stone to then running for Great Britain, first as a junior then senior, in the World Mountain Running Championships, then the Commonwealth Games and having a career as a professional athlete, it gave me the experience and motivation to go on. I would definitely support a home Youth Cup."
